A. 1. PM Modi announces 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' as theme for International Yoga Day - India Today
Speaking at the 102nd episode of 'Mann ki Baat' on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the theme for this year's International Yoga Day as 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' or 'Yoga for the Welfare of All as One World-One Family.'
The theme embodies the essence of Yoga, which connects and unites everyone, the Prime Minister said. He also appealed to people to adopt Yoga into their lives and make it a part of their daily routines.
The Prime Minister also recalled the Emergency in India, imposed on June 25 in 1975 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, as a "dark day in India's history". He subsequently highlighted the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' India is celebrating today.
"India is the mother of democracy. We cannot forget 25th June, the day when the emergency was imposed. It was a dark period in the history of India. Millions of people opposed the emergency with all their might. The supporters of democracy were tortured so much during that time that, even today, the mind shudders," he said.
"Today, when we celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, we must also observe such crimes. This will teach the younger generations the meaning and importance of democracy," he added.
Further underlining the strength of India's disaster management, PM Modi praised the resilience and preparedness of the people of Kutch in facing the havoc caused by Cyclone Biparjoy. Modi also said that in the last few years, India's disaster management capability has increased, and it is becoming an example. I want to point out the People of Odissa and State and Union Govt. did very well to practice the key principles of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam, protected the lives of even fisherman who make their living in the ocean, saved the lives and met the needs of all people of all social strata in the regions affected by Cyclone Fani that churned up the Bay of Bengal. Specific References to Mahatma Gandhiji’s 5 principle concepts of all his programs of self realisation and promoting the advancement of all men, women and children. This would exemplify in the best sense the core teaching of the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam. A.3. The theme and the logo for India’s G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022, till November 30, 2023 has a mention of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth-One Family-One Future”. The logo was selected after scrutiny of 2400 pan-India submissions invited through a logo design contest. This verse of Maha Upanishad is engraved in the entrance hall of the Parliament Of India.
B. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam (Sanskrit: वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्. from "Vasudha", the earth; "iva" = is as a; and "Kutumbakkam", family) is a Sanskrit phrase [1] that means everything on this earth constitutes one single family.[2]
The concept originates in the Maha Upanishad (Chapter 6, Verse 71-73):
” अयं बन्धुरयं नेति गणना लघुचेतसां उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकं "
"ayam bandhur ayam neti ganana laghu chetasam udara charitanam tu Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam"
Only small men discriminate saying: One is a relative; the other is a stranger. For those who live magnanimously the entire world constitutes but a family.
This concept is also mentioned in Hitopadesha: 1.3.71: Udāracharitānām tu Vasudhaiva Kutumbakkam’, meaning, ‘This is my own relative and that is a stranger’ – is the calculation of the narrow-minded; for the magnanimous-hearts, however, the entire earth is but one family ' and in Pancatantra 5.3.37, and is considered an integral part of the Hindu Philosophy.[4]
The statement is not just about peace and harmony among the societies in the world, but also about a Truth that somehow the whole world has to live by some rules like a family, set by an unknowable source. This is the reason why Hindus think that any power in the world, big or small cannot have its way disregarding the autonomy of all others and degrading their common humanity. VM
Swami Vivekananda: All differences in this world are of degree, and of kind because oneness is the secret of everything.

India’s Gift To The UN: Gandhi Solar Park And Peace Garden Inaugurated By PM Modi And Other World Leaders (swarajyamag.com)
India’s Gift to the UN and the World - Gandhi Solar Park and Peace garden 2019
byion’s-Wednesday, September 25, 2019 01:08 PM IST
Leaders from around the world joined hands in the spirit of Gandhian universality to inaugurate a solar facility and roof garden at the UN headquarters and a garden with trees from across the US dedicated to the Mahatma on his 150th birth year.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Prime Ministers Narendra Modi, Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Andre Holness of Jamaica, Jacinda Arden of New Zealand and Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore placed their hands on a glass globe to inaugurate them remotely during a meeting on Tuesday (24 September) convened by India on Leadership Matters -- Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in the Contemporary World. Coloured lights throbbed in the globe as the solar array came online catching the sun's last rays of the day and a video of the park lit up.
The Gandhi Solar Park costing $1 million and having an output of 50 kilowatts of electricity is located on the roof of the Conference Building at the headquarters and is a gift from India to the UN to provide it clean energy. India also donated the Gandhi Peace Garden made up of 150 trees located at a university campus in Old Westbury as another environmental gift.
Marking the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi, the two gifts symbolize India's commitment to the environment by producing clean power and capturing carbon emissions in the trees.Accepting the gifts, Guterres said: "I commend those who have decided to pay tribute to Gandhi's legacy by marking this anniversary with a project connected to one of the Sustainable Development Goals -- a fitting way to honour this most action-oriented leader."
“Gandhiji’s writings were full of thoughts on living in harmony with the environment and not doing any harm to it”
1. “We may utilize the gifts of Nature just as we choose, but in Her books, the debits are always equal to the credits”
2. “The earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”
Ambassador Akbaruddin summarized Bapu’s precepts thus, very much along your statements at the UNO: “This reflects that in many ways, Mahatma Gandhi viewed primary peril stemming from within individuals than from outside, more from inside us, than from others. He introduced us to the limits of human consumption, well before we faced the specter of acute environmental threats like global warming and its complex domino effects.”
